Community Bridges Gimli recognizes the value of every human being and believes that people who live with intellectual disabilities have the same rights and inclusion in the community as all other people and, in accordance with these beliefs, the objectives of The Organization shall be:

Service to Individuals

To encourage and support people who live with intellectual disabilities to achieve their potential in every aspect of their life.

Support to Individuals

To assist and support people living with developmental disabilities to articulate and realize their rights and aspirations.

Advocacy

To advocate on behalf of and with each individual, without discrimination to protected characteristics, and to coordinate and include the efforts of family members and other interested parties, with the consent of the individual (where applicable).

Community Resources

To promote and support the development of educational, health, recreation, residential and vocational community resources so that people who live with intellectual disabilities have the same opportunities as other citizens to live with freedom and dignity in a healthy environment.

Public Relations

To foster a better understanding in the community of the barriers that people with intellectual disabilities have to face in order to live a meaningful productive life in the community.

Personnel

To promote education and training for all personnel who support individuals with an intellectual disability in their daily lives.

Research

To encourage research into the identification and removal of systemic barriers faced by people living with intellectual disabilities to live a meaningful productive life in the community.

Information and Resource Awareness

To maintain a collective knowledge of information and resources available that may benefit staff, self-advocates, families, and community members and to ensure that knowledge is shared as appropriate.

Public Affairs

To function as a non-profit, non-sectarian and non-political organization committed to taking a position in addressing the systematic barriers faced by people living with intellectual disabilities.

Fundraising

To solicit and receive funds for the accomplishment of the above objectives.
